CGC Jhanjeri Celebrated International Women’s Day 2024 with Women Achievers Award

Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri Celebrated International Women’s Day 2022 at its campus. As many as eight hundred students participated in the event along with the faculty members of the college. The event unfolded in the regal presence of Dr. Jyoti Yadav Bains, IPS, SP, Investigation/Add. Charge Counter Intelligence, Mohali, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The guests of honour of the event were  Gurjit Kaur, from the Indian Women’s hockey Team, Ashley Kaur, a renowned Fitness Bhangra Coach, Prabh Grewal, a talented actress,  Simran Kathuria, a distinguished nutritionist,  RJ Shonali, the vibrant voice behind 94.3 MY FM  and Sarabjot Kaur, a senior anchor for the News 18 Network to showcase and highlight women’s achievements, initiatives were undertaken for eliminating gender based discrimination and positive shift towards greater empowerment of women in all domains.

The program started with a welcome speech on the importance of Women’s Day which commemorates the inspiring role of women around the world to secure women’s rights and build more equitable societies. 

Dr. Jyoti Yadav Bains, IPS   said at the moment that women have the power to create, nurture, and transform. The word ‘woman’ conjures up images of selfless love, care and affection. At the same time, women ignite the spirit of power and hope. Unfortunately, across the world, women had to fight for their independence and the protection of their rights. For decades, women have struggled and are still fighting to express their right to speech, to vote, to equality, to education, to income and most importantly, to freedom.

Gurjit Kaur, a Member Indian Hockey team said at the moment that if we educate a boy, we educate one person. If we educate a girl, we educate a family and a whole nation. She stressed that Education is very important for every child whether boy or girl.

According to Prabh Grewal, a talented actress, being a strong woman means asking for what you deserve, though she will be called selfish and impatient.  She stressed on loving yourself when the rest of society says you are too big or too skinny or too dark or too tall or too short or too much or too little etc. The message to dream big and work for it was given to the students. Ashley Kaur, a renowned Fitness Bhangra Coach discussed the women’s fitness & need of daily exercise. Simran Kathuria, a distinguished nutritionist stresses women’s health and nutrition.  

Bismin Dhaliwal, the Director of Student Affairs said at the moment that we look towards the future with a renewed sense of dedication, vigor, and commitment to strive to empower women and girls so that they can exercise their rights fully, use their voices freely, determine their life outcomes, and live their lives free from intimidation, harassment, and violence.
