SSOC Mohali Arrests Terrorist Shahzad Bhatti’s Key Associate

SSOC Mohali Arrests Terrorist Shahzad Bhatti’s Key Associate Raman Kumar @ Golu; .30 Bore Pistol Recovered, Accused Linked to Ambala Blast

Mohali (DPB):

In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), SAS Nagar (Mohali), has arrested Raman Kumar alias Golu, a close associate of Pakistan-based terrorist Shahzad Bhatti, and recovered a .30 bore pistol from his possession. The arrest marks a significant blow to a cross-border terror module operating in Punjab and neighbouring states.

The development was confirmed by Deepak Parek, IPS, AIG, SSOC Mohali, who stated that Raman Kumar, a resident of Gangyal, Jammu, was arrested on January 21, 2026, in FIR No. 13 dated December 10, 2025, registered under Sections 25(1) of the Arms Act and 113(1), 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station SSOC Mohali.

After obtaining a production warrant, the accused was brought to Punjab from Ambala Jail and produced before the concerned District Court. During sustained interrogation, a .30 bore pistol was recovered on January 23, 2026, based on his disclosures.

Investigations revealed that Raman Kumar @ Golu had been in continuous contact with Pakistan-based terrorist Shahzad Bhatti for a long time and was acting on his directions. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he runs a meat shop in Gangyal, Jammu, and was initially involved in local rivalries. He further revealed that he came in contact with Shahzad Bhatti through Instagram, after which they remained in regular communication.

According to SSOC officials, Shahzad Bhatti had arranged the supply of the pistol to Raman Kumar through one of his operatives. “The accused disclosed that the weapon was provided to him for future terror activities, and specific target details were yet to be shared,” officials said.

Raman Kumar @ Golu had earlier been arrested by Ambala Police in connection with a blast at a Police Station in Ambala, which was carried out on the directions of Shahzad Bhatti. During the investigation of that case, it surfaced that Raman Kumar had provided financial assistance to the perpetrators at Bhatti’s behest, further establishing his active role in terror logistics and funding.

“With the arrest of Raman Kumar @ Golu, a key link in the network of Pakistan-based terrorist Shahzad Bhatti has been neutralised,” SSOC officials stated. “This arrest has significantly dented the operational and logistical network of Pakistan-based terrorists in Punjab.”

SSOC Mohali reiterated its commitment to dismantling terror modules operating across borders. Further investigation is underway to identify and trace remaining associates, sleeper cells, and support systems linked to Pakistan-based terrorist organisations, with the aim of completely uprooting their network from Punjab.
