Special cleanliness drive held in Ward No. 6 on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
Hundreds of ward residents participate enthusiastically: Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia
Mohali, October 2 : On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi Ji, a special cleanliness drive was organised today in Ward No. 6 of Mohali under the “Mera Mohali, Meri Zimmedari” campaign. The drive was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, General Secretary of the Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab, Chairman of the Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board, and Councillor from Ward No. 6.
Hundreds of residents of Ward No. 6 participated in the cleanliness drive with great enthusiasm. During the campaign, special efforts were made to clean various areas of the ward, including cutting of grass and weeds and improving the overall cleanliness of the surroundings. Before the commencement of the drive, the residents paid their respects and offered tributes to Mahatma Gandhi Ji.
On the occasion, Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia said that cleanliness held a special place in the thoughts and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi Ji. He gave great importance not only to personal hygiene but also to keeping homes, streets and neighbourhoods clean. He believed that maintaining personal cleanliness alone was not enough; the surrounding environment must also be kept clean and healthy.
He said that Gandhi Ji’s ‘Constructive Programme’ also placed emphasis on village sanitation and creating awareness about health and hygiene. Instead of considering cleanliness solely the responsibility of the government or any one individual, it is essential to adopt it as a collective responsibility of every section of society.
Dr. Ahluwalia said that under the “Mera Mohali, Meri Zimmedari” campaign, continuous priority is being given to cleanliness, healthcare and basic civic facilities in Ward No. 6. He emphasised that cleanliness should not be limited to a particular day but should become a daily habit and a collective responsibility.
He appealed to the residents of Ward No. 6 as well as people across Mohali to keep not only their homes but also the surrounding areas clean, dispose of waste only at designated places, and actively contribute towards building a clean and beautiful Mohali.
Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia said that putting Mahatma Gandhi Ji’s ideas on cleanliness into practice in our lives and society is the true tribute to his legacy.
