Setback for SAD as Shyam Lal Gujjar Majriyan Resigns from Party
Raises concerns over representation of the BC/SC community in Kharar, questions party’s decision-making process
Chandigarh, October 26: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) BC Wing district president and in-charge of three districts, Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar Majriyan, has resigned from all party posts and primary membership. He expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as the inadequate recognition of dedicated party workers and their limited role in organisational decision-making.
Addressing a press conference at the local Press Club, Majriyan said he had sent his written resignation to SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, requesting its immediate acceptance.
Raises Issue of BC/SC Representation in Kharar
Majriyan claimed that nearly 80 per cent of the population in the Kharar Assembly constituency belongs to the Backward Classes (BC) community, yet the community does not receive adequate representation in the appointment of the constituency in-charge. He said he had raised the issue with the party president but had not received the response he expected. According to him, similar concerns exist in other parts of Punjab as well.
Questions Party’s Decision-Making Process
Majriyan also questioned the role of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s inner circle, alleging that the concerns and suggestions of grassroots workers were not being adequately conveyed to the party leadership. He said dedicated workers should receive due consideration in organisational decisions.
He maintained that loyalty to the party and the welfare of the BC community were more important to him than holding positions, and cited these concerns as the reason for his resignation.
