Rupesh Yadav and Markanday Panchal slam tons in 103-run win over Chhattisgarh
Chandigarh: UT boys marched into the quarter-finals of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite after defeating Chhattisgarh by 103 runs at The Daly College Ground, Indore on Tuesday. Centuries from Rupesh Yadav and Markanday Panchal powered Chandigarh to a formidable 323/6 in 45 overs before their bowlers bundled out Chhattisgarh for 220 in 31.4 overs.
Batting first, Chandigarh lost Meet Dahiya early for four but Rupesh Yadav and Gaganpreet Singh steadied the innings with a crucial partnership. Gaganpreet scored 35 while Rupesh anchored the innings with a brilliant 115 featuring 13 boundaries and a six.
Markanday Panchal then took charge with an explosive innings of 101 by smashing 10 boundaries and six sixes. Daksh Kashyap remained unbeaten on 18 while Parth Gupta contributed a quickfire 25 off 13 deliveries. Chandigarh finished with 323 for six in their allotted 45 overs. Shivam Yadav was the most successful bowler for Chhattisgarh by claiming three wickets.
Chasing a target of 324, Chhattisgarh made an aggressive start through wicketkeeper-batter Ameya Morey, who smashed 41 off just 20 balls. Captain Faiz Khan kept the chase alive with a fighting 63 off 46 deliveries. Aaditya Verma added 28 while Aditya Yadav scored 26.
However, Chandigarh’s bowlers struck at regular intervals to derail the chase. Markanday Panchal followed up his century with an impressive bowling performance and claimed three wickets for 24 runs in 4.4 overs. Gaganpreet Singh and Hardik picked up two wickets each.
Chhattisgarh were eventually dismissed for 220, sealing a comprehensive 103-run victory for Chandigarh and securing their place in the quarter-finals.
