PU Teachers protests enter 103rd day

On 103rd day of their protest, teachers of panjab university gathered outside VC office to press for their demand. Teachers have been demanding the release of their pending arrears after revision of scales as per the recommendations of 7th CPC.

The arrears are due since more than seven and a half years. Today, addressing the gathering Dr Kulwinder Singh from UBS said that the teacher senators nominated and elected both should join the protest and help press for early release of arrears. Dr Kulwinder reminded the senators of the times when teachers joined them in their protest against repetitive postponement of senate elections during the tenure of Prof RajKumar. He further added that syndicate and senate should use its authority and devise strong and effective mechanism towards speedy release of arrears.

Dr Sudhir Mehra another teacher present at the protest site from the Department of English and Cultural Studies said that the PU VC Prof Renu Vig should take stringent steps towards the resolution of this matter.

He further added that the time of correspondence through letter and appeals has passed. It is high time when our VC should personally reach out the minister of education and UGC and also press the same matter with chief minister of Punjab.

Dr Sudhir Mehra also had a word with PUTA general secretary Dr Mritunjay Kumar. Dr Mritunjay assured that very soon the association will take a decision on joining the protest of the teachers.

It is to be noted that no official from the administration met the gathering of the teachers to discuss the issue on behalf of PU VC. The teachers however decided to continue with their gathering daily between 1pm to 2pm.
