Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a special lecture on the theme “Globalisation and Cultural Memory” by Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, (Sri Aurobindo Chair Professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh).
Lecture begins with the introduction of the speaker by Dr. Jasbir Singh, (Chairperson, Department of History). Prof. Mohanty highlighted the new perspectives for globalization and threw light on multi-dimensional aspects like global models.
The connection between language, discourse and post-colonial attitude in different regions of the world including USA, Europe, Africa and the Asian countries. The individual and collective identities based on memories was a key feature of the discussion.
The discussion concluded with topics like migrant memories and different spectacles of power including lynching and oppression of women.
The lecture was followed by the question/answer session that led to discussion on important topics like cultural identity, regional identity, memory and historiography etc. Dr. Priyatosh Sharma, Dr. Ashish Kumar and other faculties from other departments also participated in the discussion.
