MC Mohali Cracks the Whip on Litter, Launches City-Wide Sanitation Blitz

Mohali, (DPB) February 7:

Municipal Corporation Mohali today carried out an intensive city-wide cleanliness drive, reaffirming its resolve to provide a hygienic, orderly and environmentally responsible urban environment for residents.

Sharing details, Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh said field teams undertook sweeping and lifting of horticulture waste at Sector 64 Phase-10 Market, Sector 64 Zone-3, Sector 68 Zone-3, Sector 78 and Phase-11 Mohali, as well as Phase-2 (House No. 758, B-Road) and Phase-6, Sector 56 (including 56-B Road, 636-C and 638-C roads). Public and community toilets — PT-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 64, 65, 76 and 78 — were thoroughly cleaned and sanitised, with staff sharing time-stamped updates from each location.

In a firm enforcement action, a challan was issued to the waste collector engaged by Homeland Heights Society, Sector-70 — a high-profile residential complex that failed to fulfil its responsibilities as a bulk waste generator. A penalty of ₹5,000 was recovered on the spot, underscoring the Corporation’s zero-tolerance stance against littering, open dumping and burning of waste.

Mechanical sweeping and litter-picking were conducted along key stretches including PCL Light to Matour Road, YPS Chowk to Jail Road and adjoining corridors. Instructions were issued to ensure manual cleaning of pavements and footpaths alongside machine sweeping, with photographic documentation from each site. Littered spots near Dara Studio boundary, Verka side and the Verka plant area were also cleared, with leaves and envelopes collected separately for scientific disposal at Sahi Majra.

For the night shift, a detailed route plan has been activated with multiple sweeping machines and support vehicles deployed on Chandigarh-facing roads up to Sector-48. Water-jetting operations from Sohana Sahib to YPS Chowk and back are being carried out under the supervision of designated night and operations managers.

The Municipal Corporation has appealed to all citizens — especially bulk waste generators — to strictly comply with solid-waste management norms and partner with the civic body in keeping Mohali clean, disciplined and sustainable.
