Gursharan Chhina Takes Charge as PHSC Chairman
Vows stronger healthcare infrastructure; Govt reiterates firm anti-drug mission
DPB, Chandigarh : Gursharan Singh Chhina on Tuesday assumed charge as Chairman of Punjab Health Systems Corporation in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh.
Thanking Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal for their trust, Chhina pledged to serve with honesty and dedication, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, and back the governmentโs zero-tolerance campaign against drugs. A former Joint Secretary of AAP Punjab, he is widely known in the Rajasansi constituency for grassroots engagement and sustained anti-drug initiatives.

Congratulating him, Dr Balbir Singh expressed confidence that Chhina would further reinforce public health institutions. He urged the new chairman to channel the same commitment from the anti-drug movement into governance, ensuring welfare schemes reach citizens swiftly and efficiently at the grassroots.
Highlighting the stateโs flagship anti-drug drive โYudh Nashian Virudh,โ the minister said the Mann government remains firmly focused on safeguarding youth from substance abuse, even as opposition parties stay occupied with electoral calculations.

Sharing progress under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, he noted patients are entitled to cashless treatment from admission to discharge at government facilities and empanelled private hospitals. The state has also established Critical Care Units in 23 hospitals, significantly improving access to emergency and life-saving treatment across Punjab.
