Desh Bhagat Institute of Nursing Honors World Autism Awareness Day

Desh Bhagat Institute of Nursing paid tribute to World Autism Awareness Day at the Community Health Centre in Chanarthal Kalan. Designated by the United Nations General Assembly this day serves as a reminder of the importance of improving the lives of individuals with autism, empowering them to thrive as valued members of society. This year’s theme, “Empowering Autistic Voices,” resonated deeply with the institute’s commitment to raising awareness and fostering inclusivity.

Students from the 5th semester of the B.Sc. The nursing program took the initiative to raise community awareness by engaging in a Role Play activity. Through this interactive portrayal, they shed light on the causes, signs, symptoms, and treatment options for autism, emphasizing therapeutic approaches. The event, coordinated by Ravideep Kaur and Bhupinder Kaur, aimed to bridge the gap in understanding and support for individuals with autism.

Dr. Surinder Singh, Senior Medical Officer at CHC, shared valuable insights into autism and its therapeutic interventions. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach involving medication and therapy to enhance the quality of life for individuals with autism. Dr. Singh also highlighted the significance of the color blue, symbolizing calmness and acceptance, in autism awareness initiatives.

Dr. Lovesampuranjot Kaur, HOD of Mental Health Nursing, elaborated on Autism Spectrum Disorder and its diverse impacts on children’s developmental trajectories. She emphasized the challenges in communication and social behaviors faced by children diagnosed with ASD, underscoring the importance of understanding and support.

Dr. Prabhjot Singh, HOD of Community Health Nursing, highlighted research findings indicating distinct characteristics in the brains of autistic children compared to neurotypical children. He underscored the utilization of various therapeutic interventions, including Occupational Therapy and Applied Behavior Analysis, in addressing autism spectrum disorder
