BJP leader raises four Mohali issues with Minorities Commission chairman
Commission seeks information from Punjab government, MC, GMADA and district administration
Mohali, October 29: Senior BJP Punjab leader Hardev Singh Ubha has raised four public issues concerning Mohali residents and farmers with National Commission for Minorities chairman Harjit Singh Grewal in New Delhi. The issues include recurring fires at the Phase 5 dumping ground, drinking water shortages, land acquisition compensation and delays in completing a bridge connecting Sectors 66/67 with Sectors 80/81.
Ubha said the Commission had written to the Punjab government, Mohali Municipal Corporation, GMADA and the district administration, seeking information on the grievances raised during the meeting.
He sought the relocation of the Phase 5 dumping ground away from residential areas, an impartial inquiry into recurring fires and measures to prevent further incidents. Smoke from the site has raised concerns over air pollution and possible health risks for nearby residents.
He also highlighted drinking water concerns in Wave Estate Sectors 85, 86, 88, 98 and 99, besides Sambhalki and Nanu Majra villages. He called for a reliable canal water supply and regular testing of groundwater quality.
On land acquisition in Sector 87, Ubha sought a review of compensation rates, saying the interests of affected farmers and prevailing market prices should be considered.
He also urged the authorities to expedite the incomplete bridge connecting Sectors 66/67 with Sectors 80/81, citing the difficulties faced by commuters and residents due to the delay.
Additionally, Ubha said departments should address grievances transparently and provide time-bound relief to affected residents and farmers.
Pawan Sachdeva of Mohali, Raj Kumar Rasewat and Surinder Charia, along with others, were present at the meeting.
