Amit Shukla’s splendid bowling went in vain as Assam forced for a draw

 

Chandigarh: Despite the fine bowling spell with eight wickets by Amit Shukla, Assam managed to draw the Col CK Nayudu Trophy match against Chandigarh being played at Guwahati. On Wednesday. In response to a massive total of 458 by UT boys, Assam collapsed at 237 runs on the fourth and last day of the match wherein scored 158/5 in their second inning before the stumps were drawn.

Earlier, Assam resumed its overnight score of 199/6 and added only 38 runs and collapsed at 237 runs. Amit Shukla and Mohd Ashad lit up the victory signs by dismissing the top scorer Parvej  Musaraf (119) and other tailender cheaply. Amit Shukla (6/75) took the maximum share of six wickets while Mohd Ashad (2/30) took two.

Assam appeared to be on the backfoot in the second innings with a scoreline of 83/5. Amit Shukla (2/25) and Nishank Birla (2/40) did the damage but a 75 runs partnership between Jai Borah (47) and Rituraj Biswas ( 25) recovered the loss and settled for a draw. Chandigarh secured three points on the basis of innings lead.

 

Chandigarh’s next match is against Saurashtra at GMSSS, Sector 26 from January 21.
