ECI Observer Takes Stock of First Level Checking of EVMs and VVPATs

ECI EVM Observer, Azharuddin Quazi, IAS, today, reviewed the first level checking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPATs) units being done at ware house of District Election Office at District Administrative Complex, SAS Nagar, Mohali.


He was accompanied by ADC (G) SAS Nagar, Viraj Shyamkarn Tidke and SDM Mohali Ms Chandrajyoti Singh, Suprvisor Kiran Sharma, Nodal Officer, Ashish Kathuria and Election Tehsildar Sanjay Kumar.


The ECI EVM Observer while interacting with the Bharat Electronics Limited Engineers directed them to ensure each and every EVM and VVPAT error free. He said as the ECI is committed to conduct fair polling so it is must to check the working of all the Control Units, Ballot Units and Voter Verifiable paper Audit Trail Units in time. He said that in case any unit shows error then it would be sent to BEL for rectification.


He also insisted upon to complete all the work under CCTV surveillance starting from transporting the Machines from the upper story of the Warehouse to the ground floor and then back to the storage room.
ADC (G) Viraj S Tidke apprised him of the working schedule of the FLC and said that the representatives of all the political parties have been also roped in to see the process for making it more transparent.


He said that district have a stock of 1247 Control Units, 2190 Ballet Units and 2190 VVPATs units. The First Level Checking would be completed by November 4, 2023 that was commenced on October 16.
He further said that foolproof security arrangements have been done to ensure uninterrupted completion of First Level Checking of EVMs. After completion of the work the Machines would be stored in the warehouse till the further directions of Election Commission of India, he added.
