International Algoza Maestro Karamjit Singh Bagga Passes Away at 67 Following Heart Attack in Mohali

MOHALI, OCTOBER 8

Renowned international Algoza player Karamjit Singh Bagga passed away following a heart attack in Mohali on Tuesday. The 67-year-old musician, celebrated globally for popularizing Punjab’s traditional wind instrument, breathed his last at the Government Hospital, Phase-6, Mohali, where doctors declared him brought dead.

According to family members, Bagga had recently returned from Canada, where he had performed in several cultural events showcasing Punjabi folk heritage. He reportedly suffered severe chest pain at his Mohali residence before being rushed to the hospital.

Bagga was considered one of the finest exponents of the Algoza, a traditional twin flute instrument deeply rooted in Punjabi and Sindhi folk music. Over the years, he had represented India at numerous international music festivals, earning immense respect among classical and folk circles alike.

His untimely demise has left the Punjabi music fraternity in mourning. Several artists and cultural organizations have paid tribute, recalling his contributions to preserving the folk sound of Punjab.

Family sources said that his last rites will be performed once his children arrive from Canada.
