Demand arrest of the minister in the SC scholarship scam case, court arrest
Chandigarh : Youth activists associated with the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) and the Students Organization of India (SOI) today held a protest outside the official residence of Social Welfare minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and demanded his immediate arrest in the SC Scholarship scam case.
The youth activists including Sarbjit Jhijjer of the YAD and SOI President Robin Brar, who raised slogans ‘Sadhu Singh Dharamsot chor hai” and ‘Vazifa maran wala mantri murdabad’ also courted arrest on the occasion.
Speaking to newsmen on the occasion, Robin Brar said Dharamsot had not only profited from the SC scholarship scam to the tune of Rs 69 crore as disclosed by Mr Kirpa Shankar Saroj, the then Principal Secretary of the department, but had also spoilt the future of lakhs of Dalit students. He said the actions of the minister had resulted in the exit of two lakh scheduled caste students from institutes of higher learning. “This will have an adverse effect on the State for years to come”, he said adding the SOI would not relent until justice was done in the case. “We will gherao the minister in the near future in case chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh does not act and sack him from the ministry besides registering a criminal case against him”.
Senior youth leaders including Bhim Waraich, Vicky Middukhera and Parminder Bahra while also demanding swift action against Dharamsot, said it was shocking that the chief minister continued to patronize the corrupt minister even after the CBI had started a probe against him. The leaders said even though there was a mountain of evidence against Dharamsot the chief minister had first given a clean chit to the minister and later instituted a tailor made inquiry to belittle the charges against him. “All this has apparently failed. The union social justice and empowerment ministry has found enough evidence against Dharamsot to recommend a CBI probe against him. Capt Amarinder should not come in the way of the CBI probe and should sack Dharamsot immediately to ensure a free and fair inquiry can take place in the case”, the leaders added.
The YAD and SOI both announced that in case appropriate action was not taken against Dharamsot they would intensify their agitation against the corrupt minister.
