Chandigarh : Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45B, Chandigarh organized an exhibition-cum-sale titled `Vocal for Local` by the NSS units of the college in collaboration with Khadi India.
The motive was to promote khadi and the locally manufactured goods, and prefer these to those imported from other countries.
A spinning wheel (charkha) was displayed to spread awareness about khadi and Indian tradition among students. About 20 stalls of handmade diyas, candles and other decorative material, and food were installed by students.
The proceedings from the sales of diyas and candles will be donated to an orphanage. A special stall of decorative material was put up by Ashiana Children Home, Panchkula.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Nemi Chand, NSS State Liaison Officer, Chandigarh who graced the event as the Chief Guest in the presence of Dr. Meena Chopra, principal, and the NSS Program Officers Mrs. Ruchi Bhatia and Dr. Lovleen Kaur Sohi. Dr. Agnese Dhillon, Secretary, Dev Samaj College Managing Committee was the Guest of Honour for the occasion.
The college staff and students visited the exhibition to support the noble cause by purchasing stuff from the stalls.
