Underline need of sensitising children  against  gender bias

Minister Dr Baljit Kaur Calls for standing against gender discrimination, Presides over Founders Day of NGO Samvedana

SAS Nagar: Punjab Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development and Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr Baljit Kaur called for a crusade against gender discrimination.
Presiding over the third anniversary of  Samvedana, an NGO working towards gender equality, the Minister stressed the need to create more awareness on this issue and NGOs like Samvedana could further make the issue more deliberative by putting their relentless efforts. Applauding the work being done by the NGO on gender issues and women’s empowerment,  she said that we should motivate girls and help them bring out their hidden talents. She urged everyone to sensitize their own children against gender discrimination.
Assuring every possible help to the NGO for achieving its goals, the minister said that Samvedana had been doing yeoman’s service towards women empowerment by instilling skills among them for making them self-reliant. She invited the NGO to work with her department for the betterment of girls and women.
The minister said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was committed to the protection of the rights of girl children and women in the state.
Founder president of Samvedana, Mrs  Prajakta Nilkanth Avhad shared her experiences while expanding the activities of Samvedana like conducting training programmes for schools, Colleges, Government Departments, corporations and other organisations besides running a helpline for women, men and families for free legal advice help. Apart from that, a skill centre is being run in Kajheri Sector 52.
The faculty member from NIFT Ms Wishu was a guest of honour. Samvedana’s executive committee members Aruti Nayar, Swati Chaudhary, Manjula Walia, and Poonam Wadhava helped make the programme a success.
The Minister awarded the certificates of completion to the six girls who completed a six-month tailoring and fashion technology course from the skill centre of the NGO. An exhibition by the students of the skill centre was also held there besides cutting of the cake to mark the third successful year of the services being rendered by the NGO.
