‘The 2025-26 Budget Doesn’t Do Justice to Punjab’: Balbir Sidhu

“Another year, another failed budget of BJP.”

‘No allocation for legalizing MSP guarantee for farmers’: Balbir Sidhu

Mohali:

Former Punjab Health Minister and senior Congress leader Balbir Singh Sidhu has said that the Union Budget 2025-26 will do nothing to revive India’s faltering economy. “This is yet another failed budget by the BJP government in the past 11 years,” he stated.

He further said that the budget has failed to address key issues the economy is facing today, such as the job crisis, the agricultural crisis, and allocations for minorities.

Talking about Punjab, he said the BJP government has once again proven that it does not consider Punjab a priority. “The budget has nothing for a state struggling with a massive debt crisis. Punjab has been ignored completely—no relief for farmers, no support for agriculture, no incentives for industries, and nothing for the middle class,” he said.

Highlighting the most pressing issue for farmers, he pointed out that despite promises, the BJP government has failed to provide a legal guarantee on MSP. “Even though our farmers have been sitting on protest for over a year, their demands have again been ignored in this Union Budget,” he added.

He also criticized the government’s claims regarding tax relief. “Even though the non taxable amount has been increased to ₹12 lakh, it still isn’t going to provide any relief because let’s not forget—inflation is skyrocketing!” he warned.

Further attacking the BJP’s economic policies, Sidhu said, “The BJP is responsible for the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities. In the past 10 years, petrol and diesel prices have doubled from ₹50 to ₹100, and LPG cylinder prices have surged from ₹400 to ₹900.”

“This budget is nothing but a disaster,” he concluded.
