The Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) organized a one-day State-Level Capacity Building Workshop today at Municipal Bhawan, Sector 35, Chandigarh. The workshop aimed to enhance the expertise of professionals working in Urban Local Bodies on Solid Waste Management, Information, Education & Communication / Capacity Building, and Experts in Management Information System (MIS), including newly engaged Community Facilitators.
During the workshop, participants from the Swachh Bharat Mission engaged in focusing on the planning, implementation, achievement, and sustainability of sanitation and solid waste management in urban areas.
Disclosing this, the official spokesperson of PMIDC said that the workshop covered topics such as the processing of solid waste, plastic waste, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, and relevant rules, including sanitation and its significance. The nuances of Swachh Survekshan, creating garbage-free cities, and the parameters of Open Defecation Free cities were also discussed.
He further added that success stories and best practices related to sanitation and solid waste management were shared, along with the experiences of field workers to improve the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The workshop highlighted the importance of awareness activities, emphasizing various tools and techniques to make Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) single-use plastic-free and achieve zero waste to landfill.
On this occasion, Deepti Uppal, CEO of PMIDC, urged participants to actively engage citizens in making cities garbage-free and open defecation-free.
