Chandigarh: A brilliant knock of 83 from the blade of Nikhil helped UT boys to amass 271/8 against mighty Mumbai on the opening day of the Cooch Behar Trophy match being played at Thane.
Chandigarh’s skipper Paras won the toss and decided to bat first but in-form batters – Balraj Singh (33), Devang Kaushik (31) and Ishan Gaba (12) failed to convert their scores into big innings and reduced the side to 103/3. Nikhil and Paras then partnered for 93 runs to bring the team out of trouble before skipper fell after scoring 43 with 196/4 on the board. Later, Nikhil departed at his individual score of 83 runs which was studded with ten boundaries and one massive six.
Nikhil’s dismissal witnessed the team fumble as UT boys lost three vital wickets in just 22 runs.
Aryan Verma was out on 49 runs while Tejveer and Nishunk Birla went back without troubling the scorer. Yuvraj Singh (5) and Ishan (6) were on crease before the stumps were drawn.
From the opposition side, Fardeen Sheikh took a maximum of four wickets.
