“Six evacuation centers set up in Dera Bassi , Three Flood Control Rooms established in Kharar, Two flood control helplines works in Mohali at different places with essentials”
Dawn Punjab Bureau / S.A.S Nagar : On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan, the District Administration has fired on all cylinders to thwart any flood related eventuality with meticulously designed Flood Control Plans for all three sub divisions.

Highlighting about arrangements being made in Dera Bassi Sub Division, SDM Kuldeep Bawa said that six evacuation centers have been set up in the sub division to cater more than 2100 person at a time. These centers have been established in Govt High School Laru, Jashan Palace Lalru, Govt Primary School Sanoli, Govt Primary School Ibrahimpur (Zirakpur Area), Sports Stadium and Govt Senior Secondary School Dera bassi. He stated that all the essential items such as food, electricity, medicine and water supply being provided in these centers. ‘’Necessary apparatus like Boats, JCB Machines and Pump sets are being hired and officials of drainage department put on high alert and instructed them to sanitize all the drains of the area in time bound manner,’’ he added.
Apprising efforts to take the challenge head on in Kharar Sub Division, SDM Aakash Bansal told that the water level in seasonal rivulets ‘Patiala ki Rao’ and Jaynati Devi ki Rao is under control and no need to panic. He said that three flood control rooms established in Kharar to contain any contingency and all the necessary arrangements get underway. He further informed that Boats, Life Jackets, Torches, Tents, Bamboos, Tarpaulin, Rain Coats, Search Lights, Pump Sets and other related items have been acquired. Instructing health officials to ready with Ambulances, the SDM said that clear cut instructions have made to concerned officials to accumulate Medicines, Food, Fodder and Water. ‘’Police officials and Sarpanches of villages have been asked to maintain vigil on vulnerable points of seasonal rivulets and informed in real time so that arrangements could be made accordingly, he affirmed.
Divulging the details about prepartions in Mohali Sub Division, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mohali Harbans Singh informed that two Flood Control Room Helplines 0172-2219505 and 2219506 are running at District Level for counter measures.
