Hindu representatives across Punjab laud SAD decision to nominate their representative as Deputy CM

SAD President Sukhbir S Badal announces he would rather lay down his life than let anyone spoil peace and communal harmony in the State

Dawn Punjab Bureau / Chandigarh : Representatives from the Hindu community from across the State today congregated at the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) head office here to express their gratitude to SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal for deciding to nominate a representative from the community as a Deputy chief minister in the forthcoming SAD-BSP alliance government in the State.

Even as the SAD President was profusely honoured by community members on the occasion, he announced that he would rather lay down his life than let anyone spoil peace and communal harmony in the State. “I am committed to S Parkash Singh Badal’s policy to do the utmost to ensure amity and brotherhood among all sections of people and to take everyone along in the path towards progress and prosperity.

Mr Sukhbir Badal also assured that the forthcoming SAD-BSP government would revive trade and industry in the State by making investment friendly policies besides reducing power tariff for the trade and industry sector. “We will also restart development of towns and cities as was taken up earlier during the SAD led government when sewerage and water supply facilities were created in 135 towns and cities. Infrastructure in towns and cities will be upgraded to the next level”, he announced.

Mr  Badal said the Congress government in the State was not only pursuing a policy of divide and rule but was helmed by the worst chief minister in the history of Punjab. “In Capt Amarinder Singh we have a leader who has sworn false oaths on the holy Gutka Sahib and reneged on them. We also have a leader who is oblivious to the suffering of the people and did nothing to help them when they needed power to maintain their paddy crop or run their factories and shops. We also have an utterly insensitive leader who orders the brutal assault of government employees rather than give them an audience and listen to their grievances”. He said now the Congress was trying to indulge in another drama by replacing its failed chief minister with former minister Navjot Sidhu who was known more for theatrics rather than administration. “Everyone knows Navjot Sidhu’s record as local bodies minister during the course of which he did nothing to uplift the condition of any town or city in the State”.

Speaking about Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convener Arvind Kejriwal, Mr Badal said the Kejriwal had tried to close down the thermal plants of Punjab recently through a petition in the Supreme Court with the sole purpose of playing politics on this issue after worsening the power situation in the State. He said similarly Kejriwal was responsible for demanding in court that criminal cases be registered against farmers who had burnt their paddy stubble. “Recently Kejriwal is promising 300 units power free even though he has admitted that anyone having a bill of even one unit more would have to pay the entire consumption amount. Instead of trying to befool Punjabis like this, Kejriwal should implement this measure in Delhi first where power was the most expensive in the country”.

Mr Badal said a positive bent of mind was needed to ensure all round development. He said former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had not only ensured world class roads, creation of two international airports to augment trade, made the State power surplus but had also fulfilled the religious and cultural aspirations of the people by beautifying their places of worship. He said the SAD was committed to carrying forward this legacy.

Senior Hindu leaders from the SAD who were present on the occasion included N K Sharma, Parkash Chand Garg, Sarup Chand Singla, Harish Rai Dhanda, Vishnu Sharma, Prem Valecha, Ashok Aneja, Harpal Juneja, Rajinder Deepa, Kabir Dass, Ashok Sharma , Ashok Manan and Keemti Bhagat . Party vice president Dr Daljit Singh Cheema was also present on the occasion.
