Governor inaugurates the 50th edition of Rose Festival at Rose Garden

Chandigarh : The much awaited 50th Rose Festival started here at Rose Garden amid pomp and show. The three days festival was  formally inaugurated by Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh in the presence of Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to Administrator, UT, Chandigarh,Sh. Parveer Ranjan, IPS, DGP, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Home Secretary, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MC Chandigarh,  Sh Vinay Pratap Singh IAS, DC Chandigarh,Sh. Rajesh Sharma, DIG, ITBP, Sh. Dalip Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Anup Gupta, Deputy Mayor, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, area councillor, other councilors, prominent persons of the city and officers of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation.

While addressing the gathering, the Governor appreciated the efforts done by all the MC employees and officers to make this festival a grand success. He said that people from all walks of life can enjoy the arrangements of flowers and cultural items which have been organised for all age groups.

He said that although all flowers have a unique character and beauty, but rose is one of the most popular flowers worldwide.  It is known as the ‘Queen of Flowers’. In terms of literature, the flower has been glorified as symbol of love, compassion and eternal beauty.

He said that Chandigarh Rose Garden has been planned in such a way that a walk through the garden is like reading a story. He said that this 3-day Rose festival is a way to pay tribute to the magnificence of the roses and a mega celebration of Nature.

The Governor said that what makes Chandigarh Rose Festival unique and special is the high level of local public participation. Now that the City has some relief on the COVID front, he was happy that the citizens could take joy in this year’s Rose Festival and a variety of engaging events being organized by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.

 He further said it is a matter of great satisfaction for me to see the tremendous interest and enthusiasm has been shown in participation in the Rose festival. With the concern of people towards conserving nature and natural resources increasing year after year, he was sure that the coming years would see more colorful flower shows in the city and greater participation and innovation in displaying the exhibits.

He exhorted one and all to continue the rose culture in the city and develop more varieties of roses. Through active partnership of the rose lovers and expertise, experience and knowledge of landscaping experts lets continue to make the city cleaner & greener, added the Governor.

The Governor also remembered Dr. M.S. Randhawa who conceptualized the Chandigarh Rose Festival and the third President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain, after whom this rose garden has been named. He said both of them were keen horticulturists. The Governor quoted lines from the poem, “ Pushp ki Abhilasha” as a tribute to all the brave hearts of the nation.

 

While welcoming the Chief Guest and other guests, Mrs. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor said that to make the festival live new cultural activities have been arranged during three days event inside Rose Garden to cater the visitors.

She said hundreds of varieties of roses in different hues decorating the landscape, breathtaking floral displays, innovative new designs and exotic exhibits are the high points of this flower show. While Rangoli competition, Brass and Pipe band competition, floral hat display, photography exhibition and cultural evening are the added charms to the show.

Sh. Saurabh Joshi, area councilor thanked the Chief Guest and all the guests during the inaugural programme. He said that this is the Mega Show organized by Municipal Corporation for the citizens of Chandigarh to enjoy flower arrangements amid the cultural beats.

Earlier, the Chief Guest inaugurated the Selfie booth and Swachhata Stall at the Garden, where display of various schemes under Swachh Survekshan-2022 has been arranged including Segregation of Waste at source level, Say no to Plastic and onsite compost from kitchen waste etc. In addition lucky draw with 300 attractive prizes for citizens has been arranged by submitting feedback on Swachh Survekshan-2022.

The Rose Festival started with the Ganesh Vandna followed by Barsane Ki Holi, Mayur Dance, Brij ke Geet, Kalbeliya Dance and Rajasthani Dance performances in the noon.

During the evening “Hasya Kavi Sammelan” was organized in the main stage of Rose Garden, in which famous poets of India including Padam Shree Surendra Dubey from Raipur, Sh. Manvir Madhur from Mathura, Sh. Deepak Saini from Delhi, Dr. Ruchi Chaturvedi from Aagra and Sh. Parth Naveen from Partapgarh have enthralled the audience by their famous poems. Sh. Dalip Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor was the Chief Guest and Sh. Anup Gupta, Deputy Mayor was the Guest of Honour during the programme.

3.00 p.m. Punjabi Folk Songs by famous folk singer Karamraj, Bhadargarh, Punjab

4.00 p.m. Been Jogi Dance performance

4.30 p.m. Magic Show by renowned magician Pardeep Kumar

Renowned Singer Lakhwinder Wadali
