Chandigarh: A delegation of the General Category Welfare Federation met Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and Kuljeet Singh Nagra Acting President and apprised them about the implications in the implementation of 85th. amendment in the state and demanded the setting of a welfare commission for the general categories.
The delegation was led by Sham Lal Sharma Chief Organiser, Sukhpreet Singh and
kuljeet Singh. Gurdeep Maan, Gurmit Singh Baldi,Sarbjit Kaushal,
Prabhjit Kaushal ,Devinder kumar ,Sukhbir Paul were other prominent members.
The delegation informed the state congress president that the SC/ST category employees are fully represented in all the government departments as per their share quota posts and in some cases, they are overrepresented. They also demanded the setting up of a general category welfare commission as promised by the Congress party at the time of the last assembly elections.
The Congress president assured the delegation that the viewpoint of the general category federation will be kept in view while discussing the implementation of the 85th. amendment.
They also assured that the demand for setting up a separate commission for the general category will also be considered sympathetically.
