Duo of Paras and Devang helped UT boys to beat Goa by four wickets in a thrilling finish.

 

Second consecutive win at Cooch Behar Trophy

 

Chandigarh: A timely 91 runs partnership in 112 balls between Paras and Devang Kaushik done well for UT boy as Chandigarh beat host Goa by four wickets in a thrilling twist that took hosts till the last over in the Cooch Behar Trophy match played Sanguem Cricket Ground, Goa on Monday. In reply to Goa’s first innings score of 298, Chandigarh was all out for 274 runs. Later Chandigarh made a comeback in the match and bowled out Goa for 173 runs and chased the target of 198 runs.

 

Earlier in the last day, Goa, while resuming its overnight score to 127/6, could add only 46 runs with top scorer Dishank Miskin (68) and was all out for 173 runs. Veer Yadav contributed 40 runs. For Chandigarh, Nikhil (3/31) and Anmol Sharma (3/61) took three wickets each while Devang Kaushik (2/14) clinched two wickets.

 

Chasing down the target of 198 runs, Chandigarh had a disappointing start. Balraj Singh (17), who scored a century in the previous innings left early followed by another blow in the form of Aryan Verma (8) with  41/2 on the board. The team was on the verge of recovery when opposition captain Pundalik Naik dismissed Ishan Gaba (7) leaving the side at 74/3. From here, well settled batter Devang Kaushik and skipper Paras took charge sticted  a partnership of 91 runs. But the hosts turned the table with the dismissal of the duo in the 47th over. Paras was the first one to go who was caught by Jeevan Kumar off Yuvraj Singh. Paras scored 44 runs with the help of five fours and one six. Nisarg Nagvekar found Devang Kaushik short of his crease on the last ball of this over. Kaushik smashed 80 runs with the help of 13 fours. Later, with the dismissal of Nikhil (22) at 194/6 added more excitement in the match. Goa tried their best to draw the match by bowling two consecutive maiden overs. At last unbeaten Tejvir (7) and Nishunk Birla (7) brought Chandigarh to home at 201/6 with five balls to remain at the day’s play.

 

Chandigarh’s next match is against Punjab starting from December 1 at Patiala.
