Chandigarh: Congress gheraoes UT Secretariat on EV policy, ownership rights, Laldora, and building bylaws
The congress Councillors led by their party president H.S. Lucky gheraoed the UT Secretariat to protest against the imposition of EV policy by the administration without taking the opinion of the Municipal Councillors. The Congress councilors sat at the gate of the secretariat and raised slogans against the administration.
President Harmohinder Singh Lucky said that the administration officials ate in the habit of issueing Tughlaqi farmans, without taking the ground realities into account. The opinion of elected representatives of the city is never sought before the arbitrary orders are passed by the administration.
There is a conspiracy to weaken the Municipal Council and the powers of the councilors are being taken away by the Administration. There are various issues in the city and the administration is forcefully imposing its decisions by not paying attention to them. Banning fuel based vehicles during the festival season is taking away the livelihood of around six thousand employees working on it.
The administration should withdraw this Tughlaqi decree and provide relief to the traders of fuel based vehicles.
Today the administration is not making any policy on the ownership rights of the residents of the colonies. It has been almost fifty years since the residents of the colonies got houses but till now they have not got the ownership rights.
Three generations have been living there since then but they have not been able to build their own houses yet. Colony residents are always worried about the fear of notices and sealing of their houses. They should get the ownership rights soon. Similarly, basic infrastructure facilities should be provided in the houses built outside the Lal Dora of the villages and the administration should soon regularize the houses built outside the Lal Dora.
Today, the changes which the people have made in their houses as per their needs should also be regularized soon, be it houses under housing or estate office, so that the city residents can get rid of the fear of penalties, notices or sealing of their dwelling units. Councilors from all parties were supposed to participate in the dharna, but only BJP councilors boycotted the mayor’s dharna.
While attacking BJP, President Lucky said that if the councilors of his own party do not listen to the mayor then what will the officers listen to. There is a big gap between the words and actions of the BJP, which has been proved again today. Congress will always raise the voice of the rights of the people of the city.
