On the opening day of the first budget session in the New Parliament; Satnam Singh Sandhu takes oath as MP

Chandigarh: Founder-Chancellor of Chandigarh University (CU), Satnam Singh Sandhu solemnly took the oath as the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) on Wednesday (January 31) in the New Parliament in New Delhi. The swearing-in ceremony was administered by the Hon’ble Vice President of India and Chairman Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar during the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha

Sandhu official sworn-in as the MP on the opening day of the interim budget session for the year 2024-25, following the President’s address in a joint sitting of both the houses. Notably, this is the first budget session in the New Parliament building.

Chandigarh University founder-chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu was on Tuesday nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Draupadi Murmu for his rich contribution in education and social service.

Son of a farmer, Satnam Singh Sandhu faced several educational challenges in his early life. However, through his perseverance and determination, he turned his journey into a remarkable success story. Beginning with the establishment of Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran in 2001, he moved on to set up the world-class Chandigarh University in 2012.

Beyond his contributions to education, Sandhu has emerged as a philanthropist and actively engages in community initiatives to enhance health and wellness in the country. Through his NGOs, namely the ‘New India Development (NID) Foundation’ and ‘Indian Minorities Foundation’, Satnam Singh Sandhu is playing a pivotal role in fostering communal harmony and strengthening the social fabric in the country. Sandhu official sworn-in as the MP on the opening day of the interim budget session for the year 2024-25. Notably, this is the first budget session in the New Parliament.

Besides Satnam Singh Sandhu, Narain Dass Gupta and Swati Maliwal also swore into their positions as Rajya Sabha MPs after being elected unopposed from Delhi.
