Chandigarh: It was a matter of great honour and pride for Punjab Postal Circle that Hon’ble Sh Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications and Sh Som Parkash, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry laid the foundation stone for the construction of Departmental building for housing Sector-23 Post Office.
To earmark this auspicious day, Punjab Postal Circle celebrated this day i.e. 5th January 2024 as ‘Balika Diwas’ and opened Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts of girl children throughout Punjab State and U.T Chandigarh. Hon’ble Sh Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications and Som Parkash, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry distributed the passbooks to the girl children on this momentous occasion.
Ambesh Upmanyu, Chief Postmaster General, Punjab Circle, Chandigarh welcomed the Hon’ble Ministers and addressed the gathering and intimated that Postal Department is making constant efforts to create a people-friendly, development-friendly and investment-friendly environment. Sector-23 Post Office Chandigarh will provide all type of Postal Services to the residents i.e. Savings Bank Schemes/insurance schemes/Domestic and International Mail Booking Services, Aadhaar enrollment and updation etc.
Hon’ble Minister Sh Devusinh Chauhan sincerely appreciated the efforts of Postal Department in providing all kinds of door step facilities to the public. He praised the efforts of postal department in providing medicines, payments, food and ration at the doorsteps of the customers during Covid-19. He intimated that India Post is assimilating technology in its every product and service and carrying out intensive parcel and IT reforms due to which it is emerging as the most customer friendly and citizen centric department in the country.
Som Parkash, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry appreciated the efforts of the Department of Posts and the Resident’s Welfare Association of Sector-23 making the post office building project possible. He said that he was extremely happy with the project as Sector-23 was very close to his heart as he had spent his childhood in that sector.
Manisha Badal, Postmaster General Punjab West Region commended the far-reaching postal reforms brought by Sh Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications and informed him with pride that due to these reforms, Punjab Postal Circle had achieved a growth of 189% in parcel revenue and a handsome growth of 154% in international mail revenue. She also appreciated the sincere efforts of RWA Sector-23, President Sh Gurdev Ram, Vice President Sh Sadhu Singh and Councilor Sh Damanpreet Singh in making the Sector-23 post office building project possible.
Senior Superintendent Post Offices Chandigarh, Sh Harjinder Singh Bhatti and his team in Chandigarh Postal Division played an exceptional role not only in facilitating the building project, but in organizing a grand function and Sukanya Samriddhi Mela.
Smt Padmagandha Mishra, DPS (HQ) and Sh M.U Abdali, DDG Estates were also present during the occasion.
