Important decision taken to give a grant of Rs 10 lakh to the families of two sewermen killed in the accident
Dawn Punjab Bureau/ S.A.S Nagar : A meeting of Mohali Municipal Corporation was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu in which other important resolutions were passed along with the development of Mohali.
A two-minute silence was observed in tribute to the deceased great sportsperson Milkha Singh, his wife Nirmal Kaur, Athlete Maan Kaur, Mother of counsellor Jasbir Manku and two sewermen who passed away recently.
On this occasion Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu announced that a grant of Rs. 10 lakh would be given to the families of both the sewermen killed in the accident.
One resolution after another was passed in the meeting unanimously which started after confirming the proceedings of the previous meeting. Although the Opposition councilors raised questions on some of the resolutions in between, Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu calmed down the members by giving their favorable answers. The mayor even asked members to read the resolutions carefully and then ask questions.

Some opposition councilors also said their wards were being ignored, but the mayor responded by saying that no ward was being ignored because he was the mayor of the entire city. He said that ward wise development works were being carried out in Mohali in a systematic manner and it would continue continuously, no one would be discriminated against.
Historic resolution to recruit 1000 safai sevaks also passed unanimously
In this meeting of the Municipal Corporation a resolution was passed to recruit 1000 safai sevaks under a historic decision related to Mohali sanitation. The Municipal Corporation has recently extended the contract for manual and mechanical sweeping for some time but after that the Municipal Corporation will carry out the work on its own. Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu said that this has not only met the demand of the sanitation employees but with this coming under the purview of the Municipal Corporation, the Corporation would be able to maintain the sanitation system of the city in a better way.

A resolution was also passed to increase the rate of Gauri Shankar Seva Dal, the body managing Gaushala under Mohali Municipal Corporation. However, the Municipal Commissioner Kamal Garg said that the money should be given to the Gaushala people according to their daily expenses which was passed.
A resolution has been passed regarding the grant of Rs. 4.51 crore received under the Punjab Urban Environment Improvement Program under which roads would be constructed in different areas.
A resolution was passed to increase the estimate of toilet blocks in Mohali Phase 3A, 3B1, 3B2, Phase 7 and 8 and Industrial Area Phase 1, 2, 3 by 25%. Similarly the decision to call e-tender for sterilization of dogs, the decision to shift the over-capacity cows from Gaushala to Bal Gopal Cow Basera Welfare Society at village Balongi, the work of Municipal Corporation Mohali Vikas Swachh Bharat Mission. Resolution for division of Mohali into zones for smooth operation, Resolution for extension of Manual and Mechanical Sweeping Contract for three months, Resolution for approval of estimates of work of Mohali societies under section of PMC Act and Industrial Phase 8B. A development resolution of more than Rs. 2.5 crores were passed.
Senior Deputy Mayor Amrik Singh Somal, Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, Commissioner Kamal Garg Municipal councillors and mc authorities were present in the meeting.
