MOHALI ADMINISTRATION ISSUES AROUND THREE THOUSAND NEW SMART RATION CARDS
SAS Nagar: With the motive to minimize food grain pilferage and diversion, the Mohali District Administration has generated 2916 new smart ration cards from April to September 2021 to distribute Atta-Daal under the National Food Security Act. With this generation, the number of beneficiaries increased to above 1.10 lakh families in the district.
Reiterating the commitment of Punjab Government towards digitization of functioning of govt departments, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Mrs. Komal Mittal informed that the concerted efforts of Food Supply Department, the Administration has carried out a campaign to provide smart ration cards to families enrolled under the National Food Security Act. She said over one lakh eighteen thousand cards have been issued so far to over 4.53 lakh beneficiaries in Mohali.
During a meeting to review the progress of the Food Supply Department, Ms. Mittal added that the biometric authentication ensured food grain distribution to the actual beneficiary. The intrastate portability feature of the card empowers the beneficiary to collect ration from the fair price shop of his choice. It marks the end of the age-old monopoly of depot holders. She informed that Smart ration cards can be used to withdraw food grains from fair price shops through e-PoS machines without carrying any additional document. A smart ration card will be swiped on the e-PoS machine to fetch the details of the family, after which the biometric authentication of the family member will be done. ADC (G) further apprised that the food supply department has also supplied 820 COVID Relief Packets for COVID patients during the last three months.
Amongst others who were present in the meeting included Assistant Deputy Commissioner (D) Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Assistant Commissioner (G) Tarsem Chand, SDM Kharar Aakash Bansal, SDM Mohali Harbans Singh, SDM Dera Bassi Kuldeep Bawa and District Food Supply Officer Shefali Chopra.
