Government procurement agencies purchase 51000 MT of paddy at Mohali Mandis
S.A.S Nagar: In view of the ongoing Kharif season 2023-24 in Punjab, about 54812 metric tons of paddy has arrived in the grain markets of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district, out of which 51063 MT Paddy has been procured by government procurement agencies.
Divulging details, Deputy Commissioner Mrs Aashika Jain said that adequate arrangements have been made by the Punjab government for the purchase, lifting and storage of the paddy crop being brought by the farmers in the mandis of the district and for its lifting and safe storage after purchase. To transport the crop purchased by the procurement agencies in each grain market of the district within 72 hours to the storage site, the Government has already made arrangements for labour, labour-cartage, and transportation, said the deputy commissioner by adding that the lifting of purchased contributes to 115 per cent as per condition of 72 hours. A payment of Rs 98.43 crore has been made directly into the accounts of farmers within 24 hours which amounts to 100 per cent as per the declared MSP, she further added.

District Controller, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, SAS Nagar Mrs (Dr.) Navreet said that the administration is carrying out the lifting of paddy only through those trucks, which are equipped with Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) that helps us to track the movement of the vehicle thereby a close monitoring. She further informed that a biometric-based procurement system has been introduced by the Mandi Board on pilot basis in five mandis of the district; Daun Majra, Suneta, Amlala, Tiwana and Kachi Mandi Kurali. As per this newly introduced system, it has been ensured that the farmers who have come to sell Paddy in the Mandi have gone through the process of biometric identification.

She said that till yesterday 796 MT Paddy in Mandi Daun Majra, 710 MT in Saneta, 958 MT in Amlala, 130 MT in Tiwana and 2974 MT in Kachi Mandi Kurali have been procured successfully on the basis of biometric identification process of the farmers.
