Mohali, 14 Jan :In the freezing cold weather the students and staff members of Gian Jyoti Global School, Phase 2, Mohali congregated to celebrate Lohri at the school campus where a huge bonfire was lit. A colorful function was organized here today to celebrate the festival of Lohri.
Chairman J S Bedi & Principal Director Ranjeet Bedi lit the bonfire. Students and staff encircled around the bonfire. Groundnuts and rewari were distributed to everyone present there to enjoy the celebrations.Speaking on the occasion,
Chairman Bedi highlighted the importance of the festival. He said that it was an auspicious day, which marked the culmination of winter and was a symbol of fertility.
Principal Director Ranjeet Bedi said that Lohri is a grand event of social and cultural integration, bringing about unity, amity, harmony among all castes and communities. It is a time when people from all castes and social strata come together forgetting all differences and grievances. The Students presented cultural items on this occasion and presented folk and traditional dances .
Apart from singing folk songs, students danced to the tunes of dhol. Poems and songs were recited in praise of one of the heroes of Punjab, “Dulha Bhatti” who used to help the poor and fought for their rights. The staff and the students enjoyed basking in the sun and eating goodies.
