District Has 21 Flu Corners besides 79 Isolation Beds to cope with Swine Flu

Apropos health advisory issued by the Health Department to cope with the respiratory diseases especially Swine Flu, the District SAS Nagar has geared up for the necessary arrangements, said Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Aashika Jain, here,today.
Divulging details, she said that in this regard a detailed review meeting had been conducted to take stock of the preparedness and to issue the guidelines. She said that so far a single case of Swine flu (H1N1) has been recorded of a an old aged male in Derabassi Sub Division. The patient has been discharged from the Health facility after finding him stable, she added.
The Deputy Commissioner further added that district has set up 21 flu corners in the district in Government as well as Private Health facilities. Further, 34 isolation beds have been setup in Government hospitals while 45 in Private out of total 79. Apart from that district have 21 ICU beds at District Hospital Mohali besides 75 with Private Hospitals said Mrs Aashika Jain by adding that the sufficient logistics for H1N1 patients are available with the district including Tab Tamiflu, Syrup Fluvir, PPE Kits, VTM Bottles, Mask Tripple Layer, N-95 Mask besides oxygen Cylinders and concentrators.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mahesh Kumar added that Influenza A H1N1/H3N2 is a notified disease under Epidemic Diseases Act in Punjab. It should be ensured that all patients having symptoms of Influenza like Illness reporting in the medical institutions are categorized and if they are COVID negative and having symptoms then Swine Flu (H1N1) should be kept as one of the differential diagnosis and necessary testing should be done.
He said that in adherence to the guidelines for Influenza A H1N1/H3N2, all cases having ILI (Influenza Like Illness) should report at the Flu Corner so that their movement in the general hospital can be prevented and the spread of the disease to other patients can be reduced. Similarly, all the medical and paramedical staff working in emergency settings or in OPD/IPD who are supposed to come in contact with ILI cases should take contact precautions.
Civil Surgeon advised that in case of cold, Mask should be used to prevent its spread to others and proper treatment must be followed by visiting flu corners. In case of severe respiratory problems and high fever, medical people must be contacted. He said the droplet infection carried by ILI diseases can only be avoided by covering with Mask. He also advised to shaking hands in case of flu.
