Hardik Singh marks 200 senior international caps, Hockey India congratulates the star midfielder

The attacking midfielder reached the milestone in Mohali – the same ground where he started his hockey journey as a trainee and also performed ball-boy duties during the 2013 Hockey India League – in the final of the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Punjab 2026 against Japan

Mohali : Hockey India congratulates Indian men’s team midfielder Hardik Singh on achieving the significant milestone of completing 200 senior international appearances during the final of the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Punjab 2026 against Japan at the Olympian Balbir Singh Senior International Hockey Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.

The star playmaker was also presented a special jersey with number 200 on the back by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Bhagwant Mann, who graced the occasion.

The milestone holds special significance for the 28-year-old attacking midfielder, as he achieved it at the very ground where his hockey journey began as a trainee in the academy. Hardik also has fond memories of the venue, having performed ball-boy duties during the 2013 Hockey India League, long before establishing himself as one of the most influential players in Indian hockey. His journey from a young trainee at the same facility to a 200-cap international is a testament to his dedication, perseverance and commitment to the sport.

Since making his senior international debut in 2018, Hardik has been an integral part of India’s midfield, contributing to several memorable achievements on the international stage.

He was part of the Indian teams that won historic back-to-back Olympic bronze medals at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, while also helping India secure gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023 and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. He also won silver at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.

His impressive medal collection further includes gold medals at the 2018 and 2023 Asian Champions Trophy editions, bronze at the 2021 edition and gold at the 2025 Asia Cup.

Recognising his outstanding contribution to Indian hockey, Hardik was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2021 and named FIH Player of the Year in 2023.

Reaching 200 international appearances at a venue so closely associated with his early hockey days makes this achievement particularly memorable, celebrating not just his accomplishments but also the journey that has shaped him into one of India’s leading midfielders.

Hockey India’s President Dr Dilip Tirkey said, “Congratulations to Hardik Singh on completing 200 senior international appearances. This is a proud milestone for Indian hockey and a reflection of his dedication, consistency and immense contribution to the team. I wish him continued success.”

Hockey India’s Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh also congratulated Hardik.

“Completing 200 international appearances is a remarkable achievement, and Hardik truly deserves this recognition for his commitment and contribution to Indian hockey. Over the years, he has established himself as a key player in our midfield, playing an important role in India’s success at the Olympics, Asian Games and other major tournaments. The fact that he reached this milestone in Mohali, where he began his hockey journey, makes the occasion even more special. We wish him many more milestones and achievements ahead,” said the Secretary General.
