IISER Mohali welcomes 47 students from Gujarat under Yuva Sangam Phase VII

Week-long exchange programme to showcase Punjab’s scientific, industrial, historical and cultural heritage

Mohali:  The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali welcomed 47 student delegates from Gujarat to its campus on Friday under the seventh phase of Yuva Sangam, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme.

The visiting students received a traditional Punjabi welcome, marked by the energetic beats of the dhol and vibrant Bhangra performances, offering them a glimpse of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality

Prof. Anil K. Tripathi, Director, IISER Mohali, welcomed the delegates and highlighted the role of youth exchanges in fostering national integration, cultural understanding and meaningful engagement among young people from different parts of the country.

The welcome ceremony was graced by Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora, Advisor, North Region Science & Technology Cluster, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India as the Chief Guest, and Shri Ojaswwee Sharma, National Film Award-winning filmmaker, as the Guest of Honour.

Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora emphasised the importance of such exchange programmes in connecting young minds with India’s scientific and technological progress. Ojaswwee Sharma highlighted the role of cultural exchange and storytelling in bringing people closer. He observed that experiencing the traditions, history and everyday lives of people from different regions enables young Indians to appreciate the country’s diversity.

During their week-long stay, the students will explore Punjab and Chandigarh through visits to leading educational institutions, industries, historical landmarks and cultural centres. The programme includes visits to Chandigarh, Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Sri Anandpur Sahib.

Through these experiences, Yuva Sangam aims to promote experiential learning, deepen inter-state understanding and strengthen the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat by enabling young Indians to learn about the traditions, achievements and aspirations of different regions.
