26,828 NRI Complaints Received Since 2022, Over 96% Resolved: Punjab Minister Ravjot Singh
At NRI Milni-2026 in Mohali, Minister Says Every NRI Issue Will Be Addressed in a Transparent and Time-Bound Manner
Mohali, June 24: Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment towards Non-Resident Punjabis, NRI Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh on Wednesday said that every NRI-related grievance is being addressed in a “transparent, fair and time-bound manner,” with special focus on long-pending cases involving property disputes, illegal land occupation and matrimonial issues.
Speaking at ‘NRI Milni-2026’ organised at Amity University, Mohali, the minister said the initiative was aimed at providing a direct platform for NRIs to raise their concerns and obtain prompt action from government departments.
“The objective of this programme is to hear the grievances of NRIs and ensure immediate and on-the-spot action by the concerned authorities for their resolution,” said Dr. Ravjot Singh.
A large number of NRIs from SAS Nagar (Mohali), Rupnagar, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib attended the event. Senior officials, including Secretary NRI Affairs Mohammad Tayyab, ADGP NRI Wing R.K. Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal and SSP Rupnagar Maninder Singh, were also present.
Highlighting the department’s performance, Dr. Ravjot Singh revealed that 26,828 complaints were received between January 2022 and May 2026, of which 25,870 have been resolved. During the same period, 1,187 FIRs were registered and 1,451 accused arrested.
“These figures reflect the Punjab Government’s commitment to protecting the interests of Non-Resident Punjabis and ensuring timely justice,” he said.
The minister noted that most complaints pertain to property disputes, illegal occupation of land, documentary irregularities and matrimonial matters, with nearly 5,000 to 6,000 complaints received annually.
Addressing concerns over alleged contract marriages and the use of forged documents to obtain work permits or permanent residency in Canada, Dr. Ravjot Singh termed the issue “serious and of national importance.”
“While the legal framework falls under Parliament’s jurisdiction, Punjab will strongly present its case before the Union Government to secure a permanent and effective solution,” he said.
He added that he is personally monitoring long-pending cases and regularly reviewing them with officials to ensure their early disposal.
