Drug Syndicate Busted in Tricity: NCB, Chandigarh Police Seize 793 gm Ice; Advocate Among Two Arrested

Meth worth commercial quantity, heroin and poppy straw recovered from Kharar flat; probe points to Pakistan-based network

Mohali; In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the Tricity region, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh Zonal Unit, in a joint operation with Chandigarh Police, has busted an alleged Pakistan-linked drug syndicate operating from Kharar and arrested two accused, including a practising advocate.

The operation, carried out on June 12, began with the interception of a vehicle allegedly being used by the accused advocate. During the search, NCB officials recovered 93 grams of Methamphetamine (Ice) and 10 grams of heroin from the vehicle.

Acting on further leads, the investigating teams conducted a search at a flat in Kharar, where they recovered an additional 700 grams of Methamphetamine (Ice) and 250 grams of poppy straw. The total seizure included 793 grams of Methamphetamine, 10 grams of heroin and 250 grams of poppy straw.

A woman residing at the flat was also detained during the operation and later arrested for allegedly facilitating and actively assisting in the drug trafficking activities.

Officials said the quantity of Methamphetamine recovered is nearly 16 times the notified commercial quantity under the NDPS Act, highlighting the scale of the operation.

During verification, investigators also found that the main accused had previously been booked in FIR No. 476 dated December 25, 2023, at Police Station Sector-36, Chandigarh.

According to the NCB, the investigation has so far revealed the existence of a well-organised and sophisticated drug trafficking network with links to a Pakistan-based drug syndicate. Officials believe the module was involved in the distribution of synthetic drugs across the region and are probing its wider interstate and international connections.

NCB officials stated that further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the supply chain.

Appealing for public cooperation, the NCB urged citizens to share information related to drug trafficking through the MANAS National Narcotics Helpline (Toll-Free 1933), assuring that the identity of informants would remain strictly confidential.
