Punjab SC Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi Calls for Society Based on Teachings of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji

Visits Kansal Village to Attend Birth Anniversary Celebrations; Assures Space in Memory of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji

Mohali, (DPB) February 7:

Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman, Sh. Jasvir Singh Garhi, called for building a society rooted in equality and equal opportunities for all, in line with the teachings of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji.

He was addressing a gathering at Kansal village near Chandigarh on the occasion of the birth anniversary (Gurpurab) of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj, organised by local followers.

Garhi said that Sri Guru Ravidas Ji spread the message of equality through his Gurbani, and similar principles are reflected in Articles 13 to 17, 19, 25 and 26 of the Constitution of India, which guarantee equality, freedom of belief, protection against discrimination based on caste and creed, equal opportunities in employment, and legal safeguards against violations. He added that the Punjab SC Commission works on the same lines to ensure justice for weaker sections, especially in cases where justice is denied at lower levels.

He also noted that Guru Granth Sahib contains the teachings of several revered saints and spiritual leaders, promoting the universal message of humanity and equality. He urged people to follow the teachings of Guru Sahiban to create a society free from discrimination and inequality.

Highlighting a local concern, Garhi said that Kansal village currently lacks a dedicated place of worship or gathering in memory of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj and Dr B.R. Ambedkar. He said he has taken serious note of the issue and urged the concerned authorities to allocate a suitable site for religious and social gatherings. He added that the Nagar Council has already passed a resolution in this regard and the matter is under consideration with the Local Government Department. He assured that he is personally following up the case.

Garhi also congratulated the Sangat for organising the religious function despite the absence of a proper venue.

Among those present on the occasion were SDM Kharar Divya P, the President and MCs of Naya Gaon, members of the organising committee including Bhag Singh, and other prominent residents.
