CATS Donates 151 Units of Blood and Plants 755 Trees on World Blood Donors Day

CATS Donates 151 Units of Blood, Sensitizes 200 on Road Safety, and Plants 755 Trees on World Blood Donors Day

Chandigarh: To support patients in medical emergencies and raise awareness of traffic rules to save lives on the roads, CATS, in association with the Can & Will Foundation, organized its 49th blood donation camp. The event, held at the Rotary & Blood Bank Society Resource Centre, Chandigarh, saw numerous donors voluntarily contributing to this noble cause.

Adopting a dual strategy this World Blood Donors Day, CATS aimed to save lives in hospitals through blood donation and prevent road fatalities through traffic rule awareness with the theme “Challan CAT Gya.” The Chandigarh Traffic Police collaborated by holding a road safety session, demonstrating equipment like radars and body cams, and interacting with donors to address traffic concerns in the city.

CATS committed to planting five trees for each unit of blood donated, enhancing Chandigarh’s green cover in areas identified by DSP Traffic, Sh. Jaswinder Singh. Additionally, CATS is partnering with the Sustainable Green Initiative to plant three fruit trees per unit of blood donated, supporting local farmers in the Sunderbans.

Donors, dressed in traffic signal colors, participated in the T-20 Traffic Quiz, with trophies awarded by Sh. Jaswinder Singh for the highest scores. Sh. Bhupinder Singh entertained with traffic-rap songs, and traffic-oriented games were played to emphasize the dangers of drunk driving and speeding.

  • Donors included CATS members, 50 aspiring judicial officers from The School of Illuminati,
Corporates employees from Zapbuild, Zestminds and CodeInsight.
  • 12 donors gave blood for the first time.
  • Atleast 12% of donors were women.
  • Camp saw 8 families donating blood together with children, cousins donated blood before going on vacation.
  • Jasbir Singh from Mohali made his 179th donation at the camp.
  • Sham Lal from Chandigarh donated 135th time.
  • Monica Bhatia contributed 200 fruit trees in memory of her late father Sh DV Bhatia.

Donors chose from rose, hibiscus, lemongrass, moringa, and curry patta plants as gifts at exit point.

CATS Founder, Supreet Dhiman, expressed immense gratitude to the donors for their kindness and support in the blistering heat, especially as blood banks face shortages during summer vacations. Over 17 years, CATS has organized 49 blood donation camps, collecting over 5000 units of blood and benefiting over 245 cancer patients and numerous accident victims.

The event concluded with Supreet Dhiman thanking the donors and urging everyone to practice safe driving and promote environmental sustainability.
