Chandigarh: PUNJAB ENGINEERING COLLEGE (DEEMED TO BE UNIVERSITY), CHANDIGARH, today concluded its 75th Annual Athletic Meet. Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest of the closing ceremony of the three-day event. The athletic meet started on 06th October 2023 with a wide spectrum of sports activities and events. Olympian and Padma Shree Awardee Shri Ajit Singh was the Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony and Guest of Honour was Lt. Col SS Boparai (Retd.).
The closing ceremony started with a floral welcome of the Chief Guest Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP, Chandigarh by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, and Dr. D.R. Prajapati, Dean of Student Affairs.
Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, complimented the Dean of Student Affairs and his team, faculty and staff organizing the three-day event with such high spirit. While addressing the gathering, he emphasized on overall development of students in which sports play an important role. He also mentioned that PEC will inaugurate a ‘Dhyaan Kendra’ on the 102nd Foundation Day of PEC for the physical, mental and spiritual Development of the students.
The Chief Guest Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP, Chandigarh, expressed her gratitude to be part of the Annual Athletic meet. She emphasized the importance of sports in one’s life to face challenges with grace, overcome obstacles and the strength it gives you to strive for excellence. She mentioned that sports give us the platform to build character and foster positive values. He appreciated PEC for conducting the athletic meet on a regular basis as it gives the young athletes the platform to showcase their talent and boost their confidence to face real-life challenges. She encouraged all the students to participate in such events with the true spirit of sportsmanship. She said, “Sports is not only a way of life, but it’s a metaphor for life.”
The 100m final race (Boys and Girls), Tug of War for students and faculty, Musical Chair and Lemon Race of Teachers, Sack Race, and Obstacle Race were organized on the concluding day.
The event concluded with the Annual Report of Sports presented by Prof. Sarabjit Singh, ADSA (Sports), and then the Prize distribution ceremony for Best Athletes.
