56th Convocation of Indo-Swiss Training Centre

 

 

          Chandigarh :   56th Convocation of Indo-Swiss Training Centre (ISTC) was held today at CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh. This is the first physical event being organised in CSIO since the onset of Covid-19 pandemic. The event was carefully organised using ultraviolet sanitization units developed by CSIO in the air duct system of HVAC of the CSIO auditorium as well as newly developed Air Circulation Sanitizers developed by CSIO to ensure a safe environment. Further all Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing, use of masks and hand sanitization were meticulously followed.

 Prof. Arvind, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala (Punjab)was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof Arvind while delivering the convocation address said that he got the opportunity to visit the facilities of ISTC and he was impressed by the infrattructure and laboraotires and equipment available for the students. He said that the merely the degree carries no value the real value is of the knowledge and skills acquired during the course of studies. He also remarked that there is a need to improve the number of girls opting for technical studies.

    Earlier, Prof. Anantha Ramakrishna, Director CSIR-CSIO, welcomed the Chief Guest and congratulated the students receiving the diplomas. He said that ISTC has been an integral part of CSIO almost from the very inception and many Scientists of CSIO have contributed by teaching and imparting practical skills to the students of ISTC. He said that today is a very important day for the instution since these students who have been a part and parcel of this instution will earn their degrees and will start on their new explorations in the professional journrey in life. He said that he was certain that this intellectual technical manpower so trained will do extremely well in their future endeavours and the institution will always derive pride and satisfaction that they got the opportunity to contribute in enhancing the skills of the students.

. Narinder Singh Jassal, Principal, ISTC before presenting the annual report of the Training Centre, said that it was really painful and sad time for institute to hold this convocation after the sudden demises of ISTC brilliant student Ms. Priyanshi Gupta on 11th August, 2021 in road accident. He said that she is not with us physically, but she will live in our memory. He informed the gathering with pride ISTC brought laurels to the Institute by bagging various prestigious prizes in different competitions and have arranged many training workshops. He informed that almost all students have got good placements in companies like Titan, Godrej, Addverb Technologies, Exicom Telesystems Ltd, BN Hi-Tech, Hawkings, Essen Deinki and Allena Auto.

  Later, graduating students were awarded Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas by Prof. Anantha Ramakrishna, Director CSIR-CSIO, while Chief Guest. Prof. Arvind, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, gave away the prizes & medals to the students, who had excelled in various fields.
